Rugby league legend and Queensland icon, Billy Slater is Queensland's Racing Ambassador and we are embarking on a road trip across our great state. We will be showcasing the diverse variety of racing here in Queensland and telling the world how great it is to race in the Sunshine State.
Find out what Billy has been getting up to during his Racing Road Trip across Queensland.
There was no better venue to unveil Queensland's Racing Ambassador than at Suncorp Stadium. The fortress home for the Maroons and scene of a famous series victory just days before.
Maroons legend and Queensland's favourite son, Billy Slater, walked out onto the hallowed turf with his (as yet) unnamed Dame Shadow filly. She could be a winner as she spent her time eating the Suncorp Stadium grass!
Billy's first appearance as Queensland Racing Ambassador was at Tattersall's Club Tiara Race Day, Eagle Farm Racecourse.
The sun was shining, the crowds were out and enjoying a great day of racing and Billy was a big hit with the punters. Billy and his family had a great time at the races, no doubt they will be back at Eagle Farm soon.
Taking time out from the Maroon's State of Origin Camp, Billy popped down to Albion Park for an exciting night of Harness racing and even started a race from the back of the starters car!
Billy also hosted 10 lucky competition winners and their partners for a buffet dinner at the Silks Marquee, signed autographs for race goers and took back to camp the well wishes of Maroons fans at Albion Park.
Our first country race visit was the 2016 Mater Townsville Cup, a stunning racecourse in North Queensland. On a sunny winter day, race goers were out in force and Billy was in the thick of the action.
As well as presenting the Mater Townsville Cup and the XXXX Gold Cleveland Bay Trophy, Billy stopped to chat with race goers and hear their predictions for the Cowboys v Storm game later in the evening.
A carnival like atmosphere greeted Billy in Cairns for a weekend of racing at the Cairns Jockey Club, which boasts Australia's hottest racing. The weather didn't disappoint and racegoers enjoyed two days of action packed racing.
Saturday's Ladies Day was a busy affair, with presenting the winners of the Fashion on the Field competition their gift bags, there was also the opportunity chat fashion with Miss World Australia, Maddy Cowe, form with Paddy and Stevie Payne and get a few tips from race goers. Two lucky competition winners were in for a treat thanks to Nautilus Aviation, arriving in style via helicopter with Billy. A red carpet was there to great the winners whose luck seem to continue throughout the day.
We will be announcing our next destination soon - watch this space.
