The Rockhampton Cup Final on Wednesday night looks a thrilling affair with a talented and evenly matched group assembled. South-East Queensland greyhounds will fill seven of the eight boxes with the sole local, Velocity Mia jumping from box 6.
Rather Dapper (1) is the Queensland Derby winner. He finished second to Split Image in Heat 2 by 3.5 lengths. It was a good effort considering he raced wide and still fought on strongly. Box 1 is a big positive.
Zabdon Ferrari (2) won Heat 1 by 4.25 lengths. It was impressive how quickly he gathered speed after being a step slow out of the boxes. He is well drawn in box 2 and should be hard to catch.
Gelantipy Gold (3) made up plenty of ground following a slow start when finishing third in Heat 2. He will need to improve his box speed to play a part here.
Slick (4) made full use of the inside box to win Heat 3 in the best time of the night. Prior to that, he wasn’t far away from the likes of Fast Times and Bubble Guppy. He’s a major player here.
Aza Zeus (5) finished second to Zabdon Ferrari in Heat 1. He recovered well from a slow start to chase strongly. He cannot afford another slow start from box 5.
Velocity Mia (6) surprised many when finishing second in Heat 3. If she can start as well as she did there, then she could finish in the placings.
Split Image (7) is racing in a purple patch of form, having won her past three starts here in quick times. She looked strong in winning Heat 2 and looks one of the key chances.
Gunnadoo Rev (8) finished third in Heat 3 after running wide into the first turn and copping a check. The outside box isn’t ideal given how he has been beginning lately.
