Promotion | Breed a Trotter in Qld

The trotting industry in Australia has undertaken significant growth in recent years largely driven by international wagering returns and Australian breeders now being able to access the best international breeding lines.

To keep the momentum rolling Racing Queensland in conjunction with leading breeder Haras des Trotteurs are pleased to partner in the Haras des Trotteurs Qld Trotting Boodmare Offer

On offer to breeders, owners, trainers and trotting enthusiasts is the opportunity to take ownership, free of charge for breeding purposes, of one of 14 well bred trotting broodmares to be initially bred in Queensland.  Additionally each mare will come with a free service to one of 3 internationally recognised Stallions.

The allocation of the broodmares to the new owners will be via random ballot.



how To Enter

To register your interest enter your details via the online form available here.  Once finalised an Application Form will be emailed to you.  This form will need to be completed in full to enter the promotion. 

Applications close on Monday 2 July (5pm). Drawn Saturday night, 7 July at Albion Park from 6pm.




Purpose, Conditions & Ballot

The primary aim of this promotion is to stimulate the breeding of trotters in Qld to in turn increase the volume of trotting product i.e. increase race horse numbers and races.  To compliment this initiative a second stage of the strategy will see the implementation of a juvenile racing season for trotters in Queensland to ensure racing opportunities exist to support the investment made by participants either through breeding or purchase of juvenile trotters.  To help Racing Queensland and Haras des Trotteurs achieve these aims and attract like minded applicants, the following conditions are placed on the offer:

The following are the conditions of the application process:

To be eligible Applicants must;

  • Complete the Application Form (to be supplied) in full and return to RQ by 2 July 2018 (5pm)
  • Be 18 years of age or older as of 1 June 2018
  • Not a disqualified person under the Australia Harness Racing Rules published by Harness Racing Australia
  • Must have trained, driven, bred or owned a harness racing horse in Australia
  • Only one application per Applicant/address (if the offer is under subscribed eligible Applicants will offered the opportunity to enter a subsequent draw for the remaining mares)
  • Ensure the information provided is true and correct
  • A selection panel appointed by Racing Queensland will assess each application to determine eligibility to take part in this offer in accordance with these terms 
  • RQ’s decision is final

A committee of Racing Queensland and independent representatives will the  assess each application to determine eligibility. Once all eligible applications have been screened a ballot will be conducted to determine the new owner of each broodmare.  It is proposed a public ballot will take place at Albion Park on a Saturday night during the up-coming winter carnival. 

The ballot will be conducted under the following conditions:

  • Each eligible application will be placed in the ballot for ownership of one (1) of the (14) Broodmares offered by Haras des Trotteurs;
  • The Ballot will take place at Albion Park on 7 July from 6pm
  • Applications drawn will be allocated the highest ranked broodmare still available in accordance with their Order of Preference as per their Application form
  • Results will be displayed on the racingqueensland.com.au website
  • Successful applicants will be notified via phone or email

The following are the conditions of the offer for the new owners of each mare:

Successful applicants agree to

  • Taking ownership of the allocated Broodmare by 1 August 2018
  • be responsible for the following costs;
    • transfer of ownership (the purchase price for the allocated mare is $0)
    • transporting the Mare to Qld
    • semen transportation for service to one of Haras des Trotteurs Used To Me, Dream Catcher or En Solitaire
  • be responsible for organising;
    • transportation of the mare from Haras des Trotteurs (Cardigan, Victoria) to Qld
    • the free stallion service with Haras des Trotteurs to one of Used To Me, Dream Catcher or En Solitaire.  If the mare is unsuccessful in getting in foal a second and final service will be supplied free of charge except for semen transportation costs which will be at the cost of the successful applicant.
  • Ensure the mare is located in Qld for the 2018 breeding season to ensure the resultant foal is QBRED eligible
  • Intending to race the offspring in Qld.
