Classy Pacers Step Out In AP Trial

A quiet Tuesday afternoon trial could have a big impact on the upcoming summer features.

Classy pacers Mattgregor and Mister Mundaka locked horns in a 1660m workout at Albion Park yesterday (Tuesday) as they both gear up for the latest campaigns.

And connections of both pacers came away satisfied.

Mister Mundaka, a New Zealand bred former Victorian gelding proved triumphant in the trial scoring by a neck margin defeating Village Witch while Mattgregor was a further nose away in third in a time of 1:56.2.

Sectionals were recorded in 28.5, 31.7, 28.9 and 27.4 seconds.

Previously prepared by Andy Gath, Mister Mundaka has switched to the Tamborine stables of Brad Connelly where he can make full use of the water walker facilities recently installed by owner Jeroen Nieuwenburg.

Plagued by niggling injuries in recent times, the Bettors Delight eight-year-old hasn’t raced since September 29, 2016.

In December, the Queensland summer carnival features will include the Gr.3 $30,540 Be Good Johnny Sprint followed by the Gr.2 $60,540 Queensland Cup, both open class features will be staged at Albion Park.

The events are scheduled for December 2 and 16 respectively.

Mattgregor, prepared by husband and wife partnership of Pete McMullen and Chantal Turpin, is being readied for a shot at the Gr.2 $75,000 4 & 5yo Championship at TABCORP Park, Melton on November 11.

The Queensland summer carnival is also a distinct possibility.

The Rob Roy Mattgregor gelding hasn’t raced since finishing fifth behind Hectorjayjay in the Sunshine Sprint at Albion Park on July 8.

Open class talent appears deep in the Sunshine State currently with the likes of Avonnova, Ultimate Art, Major Cam, Bettorthanspecial among others performing well while Leos Best is still to return.
