Racing Minister Grace Grace today visited Cairns Jockey Club, which is set to benefit from a $352,750 Racing Queensland (RQ) grant to deliver upgrades and important new infrastructure.

Ms Grace said the RQ grant was part of the $6 million Country and Regional Capital Works Program, which also benefits nine other race clubs in Far North Queensland.

“This grant will deliver Cairns Jockey Club new track equipment including a tractor, along with a track upgrade and broadcasting equipment,” she said.

“It will also fund a covered horse roll, building repairs and maintenance.

“The new funds couldn’t have come at a better time ahead of next month’s Cairns Cup meeting, which is already experiencing strong ticket sales, and the Cairns Amateurs in September.

“It comes on top of the $130,000 Racing Queensland has already invested in the club over the last two years on drainage works and a mower.

“Racing in the Far North has a very bright future and I’ll continue to work with the local industry to make it even stronger.”

Ms Grace said all up the Country and Regional Capital Works Program would deliver almost $720,000 in new infrastructure for the Far North Queensland racing industry.
