Reigning champion Stephen Potiris and his three-year-old gelding Short Term sit atop the points table after four legs of the eight-leg Magic Millions Far North Queensland (FNQ) Up and Coming Stayers Series.
But there are plenty of challengers nipping at the pair’s heels ahead of the fifth leg to be run at Innisfail next week (May 27).
Michael Geary-trained mare Fille Vilaine, ridden by evergreen jockey Graham Kliese, saluted in the fourth leg at Gordonvale on Saturday (May 13) in the Caltex MM FNQ Up & Coming BM60 (1800m).
The win saw Fille Vilaine join a long queue for second spot alongside Cut ‘N’ Polish, Union Jukebox, Mystic Harmony and Pink Stiletto.
Kliese joined apprentice rider Amanda Thomson atop the jockeys’ leaderboard (6pts) after the win.
The Magic Millions Far North Qld Up and Coming Stayers series kicked-off at Atherton on April 1, and will conclude at Cairns on July 18 with a 1900m BM65.
Owners of the horse that accrues the most points throughout the series will earn themselves $4000.
The leading trainer will pocket $2000.
A count back based on the number of winners, then seconds and thirds, will be used to determine the winner in case of a tie. If a tie still remains, the bonus will be divided equally.
