Townsville Turf Club (TTC) is on track for a return to racing on September 28, with pictures showing healthy grass coverage and root depth ahead of the first test gallop next week.
A remediation process which included scarification, close mowing of the surface and hollow tining to remove organic matter, has neared completion.
“When we first started the grass had a large number of lateral roots but not a lot of depth,” TTC Chairman Malcolm Petrofski said.
“Today (Monday) we have taken samples at eight different locations on the track, and the photos now show in-excess of 150mm of root-depth, which is tremendous.”
The first test for the track will be on Tuesday, September 19, with a horse to gallop on the track, before a final assessment is carried out by Racing Queensland Infrastructure staff, and the local track manager.
