Team Edmonds will unleash some of its former winter carnival firepower with a team of five starters in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap at the Gold Coast on Thursday.

The promising Fisticuffs, who was touted as a potential Stradbroke Handicap contender, spearheads the Edmonds attack along with topweight Scout, Baroda, Befana and stable newcomer Maozi.

Co-trainer Trent Edmonds said it was unusual for the stable to have five runners lining up against each other over 1200 metres.

“We’ve got five nice three-year-olds lining up against each other and it’s not want we’d normally do,” Edmonds said.

“It’s unfortunate but it’s due to the zonal racing which we are abiding by to keep racing going.”

Edmonds said it was difficult to separate his runners but had a slight leaving to Fisticuffs and Baroda, who is resuming after recording three straight wins during the summer.

Fisticuffs has won three of his six starts including an impressive first-up win at Doomben on March 18.

“Fisticuffs has got a stack of talent and we were looking at the winter with him and some of the others,” Edmond said.

“The long-range plans for a few of these was the winter carnival and we had hoped Fisticuffs might make a Stradbroke horse if he could measure up in some of the early three-year-old races.

“It’s really hard to separate them but if pressed I’d probably lean to Fisticuffs over Baroda while Maozi is a new comer to the stable and is going super.”

Maozi is having her first start for the Edmonds stable after recording two wins and four placings from 12 starts in Victoria for the Peter and Paul Snowden stable.

Baroda stamped her class with three straight wins last campaign including her latest win over the promising Star Of Michelin at Eagle Farm on February 1.

“Baroda might need the run and will be better over further but she’s going well,” Edmonds said.

“We took her to Beaudesert for a jump out recently and she flew.

“They’re all good horses at different stages of their preparations and it’s unfortunate they have to clash.”

Edmonds said Scout was another winter carnival hopeful and races well at the Gold Coast.

Scout also is on the comeback trail after finishing sixth to superstar Alligator Blood in the Magic Millions Guineas at the Gold Coast in January.

“Scout has won twice at the Gold Coast and he had a terrible run in transit when he was beaten by Alligator Blood in the Magic Millions Guineas.” he said.
