Trainer Darryl Hansen is hoping to have a big Magic Millions presence next month but may have to wait for the winter with another talented sprinter Bat A Kat.

Bat A Kat never went through the Magic Millions sales as a yearling and is on the comeback trail following knee surgery in the Benchmark 90 Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Hansen has been in great form with four winners from his past five starters including Magic Millions Cup hope Monsieur Gustave.

Monsieur Gustave bounced back to his best form winning at the Sunshine Coast last Sunday and will have his final dress rehearsal for the Magic Millions Cup (1400m) in the Listed The Buffering (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday week.

As well as Monsieur Gustave, Boomstress will attempt to qualify for the $2m Magic Millions Classic (1200m) via the Group 3 Bruce McLachlan Stakes (1200m) the same day.

“Boomstress did a great job to run second to Better Reflection in the Calaway Gal last Saturday but she’ll need more prizemoney to get into the Magic Millions (Classic),” Hansen said.

“Penniho also is targeting the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares race and she’ll either run in the Vo Rogue next week or in the Nudgee Stakes.”

The Listed Nudgee Stakes (1200m) is restricted to fillies and mares with the winner earning a wildcard entry for the $1 million Magic Millions Fillies & Mares (1300m) on Magic Millions day.

Hansen has a good opinion of Bat A Kat who is a five times winner and has missed a placing only once in her 11-start career.

The four-year-old was bred in central Queensland by some mates of Hansen.

“He’s a homebred who was bred by a couple of mates of mine in Rockhampton,” Hansen said.

“He’s out of a good mare, Regal Megan, who won 14 races in central Queensland.”

The son of Falvelon underwent knee surgery to remove a bone chip and spur following his win at Doomben last January.

“He’s coming along well  after the surgery and he’s a big hope tomorrow despite drawing barrier 12,” Hansen said.

“I had him ready to win first-up but there were reasons for his defeat and then he came out and won in class record time at the Gold Coast last start.

“At this stage there’s no immediate plans for him but I’m hoping he’ll measure to the winter carnival next year.”
