Four-time premier trainer Tony Gollan broke his own record for most Queensland metropolitan winners in a season when Daring Deeds saluted at the Gold Coast Turf Club on Wednesday.

Gollan brought up his 87th winner and surpassed his record of 86.5 set in 2015/16, which for almost 20 years belonged to legendary trainer Bruce McLachlan (78 winners).

Gollan will claim his fifth Brisbane metropolitan premiership at the end of the month, joining JJ Atkins and Robert Heathcote at fourth on the list of all-time premiership winners behind George Anderson (10), Fred Best (14)* and McLachlan (16).

"It's terrific to do this again. It was great the first time (2015/16) and then last year to get so close to the mark again," he said.

"This season has been fantastic due to a great effort by my staff and the entire team working behind the scenes."

Gollan said Lough Neagh Stakes Day at Doomben in December was a major highlight.

"The day I had four winners during the summer carnival (Ef Troop, Outback Barbie, I'm A Rippa, Most Important) was pretty special," he said.

"Then there's the emergence of I'm A Rippa, who won on Magic Millions day and a further two (black-type) races during the winter carnival."

Gollan has a further 11 chances to add to his tally at Doomben on Saturday, including emerging sprinter Miss Exfactor in the GH MUMM QTIS Three-Years-Old Class 6 Plate (1200m), and prolific Doomben mile winner Sheiswhatsheis in the Sky Racing Tattersall's Mile (1600m).

***Some records note Fred Best as training the most metropolitan winners 17 times.
