 The timing was just perfect.

With a Saturday afternoon off from his busy working schedule with the in-form Team Tritton stables in Sydney, young Lachie Manzelmann made the most of it.

The 18-year-old jetted back to Brisbane and headed straight to Albion Park to partner the Darrel Graham trained Modern Era in the Prydes Easifeed Pace and duly saluted in a time of 1:53.5.

Modern Era is raced by Lachie’s father, John - a highly successful thoroughbred trainer based in central Queensland.

“It was just one of those lucky things where the timing all worked out, I had the afternoon off and Darrel had multiple runners in that race and I got the call-up to drive dad’s horse and he got the job done in good style.” Manzelmann said.

It was only his second Albion Park Saturday night triumph after landing his maiden victory aboard Cruisin Carl back on September 2.

Before moving to Sydney, Manzelmann had previously worked with Chantal Turpin and Darrel Graham.

Manzelmann moved to Sydney in January and joined forces with Shane and Lauren Tritton, he has driven Im Twice The Delight to victory at Penrith (February 1).

The Tritton stable has enjoyed tremendous success in recent weeks with the likes of Franco Nelson, Platinum Revolution, Reaza Grunter and My Sweetchilliphilly all proving to be solid winners.

And Manzelmann is thoroughly enjoying his stint in Sydney and return home isn’t expected anytime soon.

“It’s a great experience working on-course here at Menangle with Shane and Lauren; I’m learning plenty and meeting a lot of new people which is great.

“While I’ve only had the one winner done here, the opportunities are starting to come and I’ve just got to be patient.

“I’ve got to say my favourite horse to work with down here is Yayas Hot Spot, he’s just a cool horse to do anything with but there are a few others that I quite like too. The stable is going really well at the moment which is great.”

The next step for Manzelmann is a winner at TABCORP Park, Menangle.

And that shouldn’t be too far away.
