The new father and daughter training partnership of Tony and Maddy Sears will be hoping to continue its good fortunes at Ipswich on Friday.

Tony Sears has been one of Toowoomba’s most successful trainers in recent times but he felt the time was right to share the training duties with his daughter, Maddy.

The pair became the latest trainers to begin a joint venture last month and so far, it’s been highly successful with 10 wins.

Maddy Sears, 22, worked alongside her father for five years after leaving school as a teenager before starting a training career.

After a career in show jumping, Maddy Sears was licensed to train in her own right and had a small team of four horses in work at Toowoomba before forming a partnership with her father.

Team Sears has only one Ipswich runner, Devil’s Temptation, engaged in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap (800m).

Devil’s Temptation is topweight with 59kgs but Team Sears has decided to offset the weight with the booking of claiming apprentice Adin Thompson.

The gelding has started only four times with a maiden win at Eagle Farm last April and is coming off a last start second in a 1000-metre Class One at Ipswich on October 6.

Tony Sears was the leading trainer in Queensland on QTIS bonus money earned last season and is hoping his luck in the lucrative series continues.

Team Sears was in sparkling form at Ipswich last week training a double with Special Thing and Real Supremacy.

“We couldn’t be happier the way things have started and Dad and I work well together,” Maddy Sears said.

“Devil’s Temptation has improved a lot since his last run and he should be better suited over 800 metres.

“We’ve had three winners at Ipswich so we’re hopeful the luck continues.”
