Under-rated mare Jamaican Rain may have earned a Group 1 campaign in Melbourne during the spring following her classy victory in the Listed Glasshouse Handicap at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.

Ridden by Tegan Harrison, Jamaican Rain completed a hat-trick of wins in her Queensland debut with a dominant 3-3/4 lengths win over Privlaka.

River Racer was third, a further short neck away.

Trainer Richard Laming was in Darwin and missed Jamaican Rain’s impressive victory.

His father, Gold Coast trainer Bevan Laming, has a big opinion of the daughter of Manhattan Rain who took her record to six wins in 11 starts.

“She’s top class on wet tracks and we think she’s good enough for the (Group 1) Myer Classic in the spring,” Laming said,

“She’s only been here three weeks but she’ll stay on for the Tatt’s Mile in three weeks.

“This was the race we set her for and I told Tegan before the race to wait as long as possible as it’s a long way home here.”

Harrison was thrilled to pick up the ride on Jamaican Rain who had won her previous two starts at Moonee Valley and Cranbourne.

“I’ve got a good association with Richard and Bevan and when I heard the ride was available I quickly rang for the ride,” Harrison said.

“I didn’t ride her in her gallop during the week but I was there and I was very impressed with her.”

In a thrilling three-way finish, Super Suave survived a protest to win the Winter Provincial Sprinters Series Final (1200m).

Super Suave, ridden by Brad Stewart, bullocked his way into the clear halfway down the straight before going on to down Rocky Supreme by a short half head.

Jetsonic was third, only a half neck away in a blanket finish.

Super Suave’s win was his fifth in 15 starts and made amends for his last start fifth behind Rocky Supreme at the Sunshine Coast on June 1.

Jockey Ron Stewart on runner-up Rocky Supreme fired in a protest alleging interference from Super Suave over the final 50 metres but it was dismissed in the stewards’ room.
