Jockey Galloway added passing 600m reluctant to shift extremely wide on track to improve and elected to trail DAZZLING GREY into race. When failed to quicken as expected, held up rounding home turn and then obliged to shift out upon straightening. Jockey Galloway further added the colt which was having its first start today was inclined to race greenly in home straight but nonetheless finished race off well and in his opinion would appreciate a step-up in distance.

Ms Bogenhuber stated she considered taking up that position however, was mindful of her specific instructions to lead and therefore when caught wide early allowed horse to stride forward in an attempt to obtain the lead. Ms Bogenhuber noted she was only able to obtain a position outside the leader near 900m. Trainer P Butterworth confirmed instructions and noted similar tactics had been adopted at the geldings last start.

He indicated that the stable had expected a forward showing in today’s event, adding the mare had had a brief spell after performing poorly in Townsville on 21 July, which he believed could be attributed to the horse not travelling well in the trip to Townsville. He indicated prior to this, the horse’s form had been good and stated that at Doomben on 7 July the horse had worked hard when ridden forward to obtain the lead in the early stages from a wide barrier. Stewards accepted the explanation.
