Stanley reported to stewards that his mount was travelling well in the event until a point near the 550m where it received the heavy contact by THE BLONDE GODDESS and from that point on, his mount didn’t feel comfortable and went to the line only fairly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer C. Taylor could offer no further explanation aside from the heavy contact PAPASITO received near the 550m.

Wheeler stated it had been his intention to ride in a more forward position, however with the removal of the blinkers from the horse’s gear, the gelding was tardy away and unable to muster speed. He further added when restraining from heals near the 800m, the gelding raced ungenerously for a short distance with its head in the air. Lost the off hind plate in running.
