Rounding the turn near the 950m when the pace slowed had to be checked and lost ground. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the gelding Apprentice said that his mount was standing awkwardly in the barriers and after beginning only fairly he had to ride the gelding along to take up a forward position to comply with his instructions. However, he added that he was hampered near the 950 metres and placed his mount under pressure from the 600 metres, where it failed to respond and was disappointing. |
