When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, Apprentice said that after beginning well, in the early stages he was unable to hold his position when horses raced forward of him, and that the filly failed to travel well throughout and was under pressure from the home turn. A swab sample was collected. Trainer advised that the filly will now be spelled and may leave her stable. |

Passing the 200 metres was momentarily inconvenienced, and then inside the final 100 metres had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on heels. Passing the 100 metres Jockey accidentally dropped his whip.

When questioned apprentice explained he had been instructed to lead. He said after obtaining the lead in the early stages he elected to restrain his mount in an attempt to slow the tempo. He said at this point near 1000 metres other runners improved to his outside and in doing so crowded his running resulting in him losing ground. He added soon after he was held up on heels. He said he was again held up in straight and did not obtain clear running until near the 100 metre. Stewards advised apprentice that he should have made a greater effort to hold the lead when the tempo was only moderate. |

Over-raced when wide in the early stages, as a result apprentice allowed the gelding to stride forward from the 1000 metres. Shortly after straightening, when laying in, shifted in away from another runner making contact with the hindquarters of another runner and became unbalanced. |
