Presented to the parade ring with winkers, which was not part of its advertised gear. On an undertaking from the trainer that the mare wore that gear at its previous start, stewards, after making further inquiries, established that the horse had worn that gear at its previous start and therefore allowed the mare to race in that gear despite it not being advertised. A public announcement was made this effect.

When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey R Faehr stated he had expected the horse to race well. Jockey Faehr was instructed to race in a forward position and was of the opinion that the horse may have had to work harder than he anticipated when BOXER raced to its outside in the early and middle stages.
