When questioned as to whether there was an opportunity to maintain a trailing position behind the leader during the middle stages of the event rather than surrendering this position to another runner, jockey advised that due to the strong early tempo set, he was of the view to restrain his mount during the middle stages to allow the horse to travel more comfortably which in his opinion would have enabled the mare to finish the race off to its full potential, bearing in mind the steep weight rise tonight from its most recent win. |

He stated that after beginning awkwardly he settled further back than he had anticipated. He added that he was mindful of the gelding's racing pattern, which is to race up on the speed, and at a point near the 900m he elected to shift wider on the track and stride forward to take up a position outside the leader. Jockey Geran further stated that he was disappointed with the gelding's finishing effort. |

Raced wide from leaving the 800m. Stewards questioned apprentice J. Johnson regarding her riding of REGULAR from the 900m to a point leaving the 600m. Apprentice Johnson stated that REGULAR had shown a tendency to overrace when ridden with cover. As a result, when the tempo of the race slowed she elected to allow her mount to come out and travel three wide from that point onwards. Trainer B. Guy confirmed the comments of apprentice Johnson regarding the horse's previous racing manners. Stewards noted the explanation. Vetted and found to have a slow post-race recovery. |
