He stated that the instructions were to be positive on the gelding and endeavour to settle in a handy position but not to be trapped wide. Mr Shailer was advised that in future he must inform stewards of any significant changes in riding tactics.

Fancourt reported that from the awkward draw she had to ride her mount forward in the early stages to cross runners to her inside and after doing so when she endeavoured to steadied in front, the gelding overraced badly despite her efforts and proved difficult to settle and as a consequence compounded over the concluding stages.

Then 3 wide so elected to restrain further to obtain cover one off. Noted it was first start over 1300m and was concerned if remained outside of leader would have resulted in strong tempo. Failed to make any ground on winner over final 300m. Foreman confirmed instructions, satisfied with ride after viewing footage. Rider advised erred in restraing passing the 800m. PR vet rev poor recovery. Trnr said geld, having 1st start for stable in h/sight may have lacked fitness to be competitive on a heavy surface, due to inconsistencies in exercise program, following recent wet weather & add would derive fitness benefit and would step up in dist.
