Rider questioned re performance - stated after receiving interference at start was unable to take up a forward position as anticipated. Added attempted to comply with instructions and improved forward however, filly failed to show necessary speed and instead of being caught wide elected to obtain a position with cover towards rear of field. Added filly ran on fairly over concluding stages and in his opinion would appreciate a step up in distance. Vetted - no abnormalities.

The start was delayed when the gelding underwent a veterinary examination when mucus was observed in the off-side nostril. The horse was subsequently cleared to start. Jockey J. Lloyd reported at scale in the early stages he was obliged to pressure his mount to hold a position and the horse raced greenly, and after having obtained the lead in the home straight was somewhat reluctant to finish the race off and advised stewards he indicated to connections the horse would perhaps benefit from the addition of winkers to its gear.

Trainer expressed his disappointment in the performance and could offer no explanation. Trainer subsequently reported that following the disappointing performance, an x ray had revealed a lump on the near shin had sustained a small fracture line. Trainer indicated that vet advice had recommended no treatment other than to spell for 8 to 12 weeks.

Lloyd indicated that whilst the horse overraced in the early stages he was also of the view that the horse changed stride on a number of occasions from the 800m until entering the home straight and only responded to his riding in the home straight from the 300m onwards.
