Jockey Eaton stated that the gelding was racing keenly at that point of the event and it would have been difficult to restrain and take cover. Jockey Eaton also added that the gelding races best when allowed to stroll free and not placed in restricted ground.

Stewards questioned apprentice T. Marshall regarding his riding of DENARIUS. Apprentice Marshall explained that he was instructed to settle the horse more forward today than at its most recent start and after beginning well he rode forward to settle outside the leader PATRONIZING and DENARIUS then commenced to overrace and despite his efforts could not be restrained and for this reason led the field by a considerable margin in the middle stages. Stewards accepted his explanation.

Rider questioned re riding in the early stages - stated under no specific instructions and at previous start at Beaudesert filly drew wide and elected to steady and find cover. Further stated after beginning well today and when runners to inside did not show enough pace he allowed mount to stride forward and lead.
