Maloney, the rider of FLATTER, was advised to exercise greater care and not to excessively slow the speed whilst leading.

Plumb stated that after settling in a trailing position towards the rear, the gelding raced a little keenly in the early stages and then when shifted 3 wide with cover to improve passing the 600m, was afforded every opportunity to finish the race off. He further added that once in the home straight, when placed under pressure, the gelding proved a little disappointing and in his opinion may improve with the run. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
