Nothdurft stated that after pulling and being caught wide in the early stages he managed to obtain the lead as expected. Held up on heels app & rounding h/turn. When quest re vigour shown b/n entrance to straight & 200m rdr stated rearward posn he rode his mount for luck along the rail app h/turn. Rdr stated that upon obtaining clear running at entrance to straight he gathered up his reins, so as to use his padded whip, & in doing so got the butt of his whip tangled in his reins. Rdr stated he continued encouraging his mount along with his left hand whilst he untangled his whip which he was able to do app 200m. Rdr stated he was able to place mount under full pressure from this point & it found line well.

Wilson advised that even though FANX raced in a forward position, he is of the opinion that FANX is better suited when allowed to lead and dictate terms. As the gelding was unable to do that today, this may have had some bearing on its finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Overraced when the pace slackened near the 1000m. Laid in under pressure after passing the 400m. J. Orman was questioned as to the reasons his mount lost its position after settling behind AMAZINGLY near the 900m.
