Shortly after the start was hampered. Near the 100m had to be shifted inwards to continue into clear running. When questioned re tactics, rdr std mnt began only fairly & failed to muster speed which resulted in it settling towards rear of field. Std mnt did not travel well throughout early & middle stages & he was obliged to urge it along in order to maintain contact with field. Added when tempo of race increased leaving the 700m, mnt became detached from main body of field despite ridden aggressively & it was only inside final 200m that it responded to riding & closed race off strongly.

An explanation was sought from rider regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding which led today which is contrast to its recent starts. He stated that the gelding began extremely well and was keen in the early stages and lead without being pressured. Trained stated that he instructed rider to ride the gelding where comfortable as it’s up in distance today and was satisfied with the gelding leading.

Rdr std with the moderate pace in the middle stages the gelding overraced but when the field quickened from the 600m he did not respond and raced in a disappointing manner. A post race vet exam revealed the gelding to be displaying cardiac arrythmia. Trn was adv a vet clearance including the results of an ECG would be required before the gelding barrier trials to the satisfaction of the stwds.
