Slow to begin. Qtnd performance, S Galloway reported instructed to ride colt at rear of field from todays wide barrier. Jockey Galloway added passing 600m reluctant to shift extremely wide on track to improve and elected to trail DAZZLING GREY into race. When failed to quicken as expected, held up rounding home turn and then obliged to shift out upon straightening. Jockey Galloway further added the colt which was having its first start today was inclined to race greenly in home straight but nonetheless finished race off well and in his opinion would appreciate a step-up in distance.

Jockey R. McMahon, rider of HALLSIDE REBEL, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he directed his mount out at a point leaving the 400m and in doing so made heavy contact and forced QUIRION out at this stage, causing that horse to become severely unbalanced and lose ground. Jockey R. McMahon was suspended from riding in races for a period of 11 days, to commence at midnight, 17 September and to expire at midnight, 28 September.

He added that the horse was doing its best work over the concluding stages when able to shift wider on the track and be placed into clear running.

Rider questioned re riding after 1000m where having held position on rail he shifted one off after 900m to follow CLASSAY - stated was of the view having been racing behind SHANGHAI BULLET was better option to shift away to follow CLASSAY however, not long after tempo steadied resulting in him becoming awkward at heels of CLASSAY, allowing GOLDEN COMMAND to improve up to his inside.
