Rider said in the early stages he was content with the position outside of MARINE CORPS, however that horse elected to race one off the fence and then was taken three wide when ABLE ENGINE shifted away from the rail near the 1100m. He said the gelding was inclined to lay out throughout and he was reluctant to restrain unnecessarily to get a trailing position behind ABLE ENGINE and felt the horse was comfortable racing in that position. He said the horse dropped the bit on the home turn, however finished its race off nicely, but in his opinion will be better suited by stepping up in distance.

He elected therefore near the 450m to shift back in an attempt to follow PRINCESS DEVINE when LEAPIN’ LENA had commenced to weaken. When quest re perf. rdr stated he rode mount along with vigour early to establish forward position however his mount was unable to muster sufficient early speed & was caught wide. Rdr stated mount commenced to weaken noticeably from 700m & he did not place it under pressure in straight due to how quickly it have given ground.
