Givem Hell Declared a late scratching by order of stewards, acting on veterinary advice, after the filly kicked out in the barriers and got its near hind leg caught behind the hind gates resulting in it sustained superficial lacerations to its leg. Ever the Optimus As the horse had not raced for more than 12 months, it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Ipswich 13/01/2018

Coolmunda Jockey E. Ljung was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that whilst riding along failed to take sufficient measures to prevent her mount from shifting in, crowding the running of HOLBROOK and ON SHOW, both of which had to be checked. Jockey E. Ljung was suspended from riding in races for a period of 11 days, to commence at midnight, 10 January and to expire at midnight, 21 January. Doomben 03/01/2018
De La Lad Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages. Stewards sought an explanation from jockey B. Stewart regarding the tactics as the horse settled to the rear of the field which was in contrast to its most recent form. He advised stewards he had been given no specific instructions, however after being slow to begin, and the horse showing no early pace, he elected to settle at the at the tail of the field. Queen Beatrice Overraced and was steadied from heels near the 900m. Jockey L. Cheshire reported that it had been her intention to settle in a forward position, however after being tightened for room at the start she was obliged to settle in the second half of the field. Sunshine Coast 12/01/2018
Haven Duke In the early part of the home straight was slightly tightened between SHINE TAK GLORY, which was weakening, and GOLDEN COMMAND, which laid in slightly. Ipswich 13/01/2018
 
Race 3
Final Over Overraced in the early stage and when restrained from heels near the 1000m shifted wider and as a result raced 3 wide. Stewards questioned apprentice jockey S. Lacy regarding her riding of the horse, particularly in the home straight when it appeared she restrained the horse after leaving the 400m and had some difficulty approaching the 300m. She indicated the horse was hanging out badly, which was uncharacteristic for the mare. Stewards in reviewing the film accepted the explanation. Trainer Mr P. Duncan was also interviewed. Back Chat Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 900m. Hung in in the home straight, and proved difficult to ride out. Toowoomba 19/01/2018
Beat the Beast Jockey J. Lloyd explained his intention was to be further forward than he would be positioned. He stated the gelding began awkwardly and was a little slow to muster speed and from the draw he was of the view he would end up racing 3 wide with cover behind DREAM WILDER and when that horse shifted in, as he did not want to be left 3 wide without cover, he allowed KENDALL’S DREAM to stride forward to improve which resulted in him racing further back than anticipated. He added that approaching the first turn rather than remain 3 wide behind KENDALL’S DREAM he elected to restrain and shift back Doomben 03/01/2018

Epic Piper Placed in restricted room near the 1100m and had to be steadied. Momentarly held up approaching the 400m. Then had some difficulty securing clear running in the home straight. Sunshine Coast 12/01/2018
Imay Shout Momentarily held up approaching the 400m. Improved onto heels after passing the 100m and went to the line without being fully tested. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey R. Wiggins advised that from the wide alley he had been instructed to settle in the second half of the field. He said he could have been in a more forward position however he would have been caught wide and restrained to the tail of the field. He also had been instructed not to shift too wide on the home turn as connections did not wish the horse to be positioned wide when being asked to improve into the race Sunshine Coast 12/01/2018

Distroyia After being caught racing wide in the early stages was allowed to stride forward and assume the lead near the 1000m. Ipswich 30/08/2017
Victory Dance Steadied from heels shortly after the start. Warwick 26/12/2017
Tennessee Fling J. Orman reported that the horse did not respond when placed under pressure from the 600m and as he was concerned with its action he did not persist in riding it out, resulting in the horse finishing tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the horse had poor post-race recovery. Trainer W. Nugent was advised that the horse must perform competitively in an official trial before being permitted to start again. Mr Nugent advised that the horse would be sent for an immediate spell. Relaxed Shifted out after passing the 700m to improve and was wide from that point onwards. Sunshine Coast 12/01/2018
Shaolin Kungfu Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey G. Colless indicated after being held up rounding the home turn he felt the gelding was a strong chance as it felt as though the horse was full of running, however when afforded clear running shortly after entering the home straight between FATAL RENDEZVOUS and STORMY DESTINY, the horse failed to quicken as he had anticipated and was somewhat disappointing in the home straight.
