Rider re tactics - explained after being keen in preliminary began well and obtained lead without pressure and rounding first turn when an attempt was made to restrain to slow the speed it failed to respond to his efforts and continued to overrace. Explained not his intention to go so hard but was unable to restrain further which contributed to its failure to finish race off.

Near 100m shifted in and steadied from the heels of DYNASTIC. Rider questioned re tactics - stated specifically instructed to press forward early stages to obtain lead. Furthermore, if able to lead and obtain cheap sectionals then increase tempo leaving 600m. Added unable to cross DYNASTIC in early stages, which resulted in him racing to outside and forward of that runner in early and middle stages. Added leaving 600m failed to respond to his riding as expected and displayed a tendency to hang in in home straight. Trainer confirmed instructions.

When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance, co-trainer B Rodgers stated that the filly did not appreciate the small circumference of Beaudesert at its last start when first up from a lengthy spell. Mr Rodgers noted that the filly won a 2 year old metropolitan race earlier in its career and added that it was not the stable’s intention for the filly to lead today, however, the rider was obliged to press forward in the early stages to obtain a position closer to the fence.

Stewards inquired into the performance of the horse. Trainer’s representative Mr Michael Morrison was interviewed. He indicated following the horse’s last start in January blood tests had been performed and prior to the horse being sent for a spell. Stewards adjourned the inquiry for a report of these blood tests to be supplied to stewards in the coming days. Stewards advised Mr Morrison that the horse would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to racing again as it had been uncompetitive in today’s event. A post race veterinary examination reveal no abnormality.
