When questioned as to the horse’s seemingly improved performance, trainer B. Smith stated that the filly did not appreciate the soft conditions at its last start. Mr Smith noted that its last start was 5 weeks ago as he had been forced to scratch the filly on a number of occasions to avoid wet tracks. Mr Smith added that the filly was also suited today by the drop back in distance to 1200m from a good barrier.

When unable to obtain cover he allowed it to cross forward of runners to his inside to obtain a position closer to the fence with the intention of then handing up the lead to obtain cover. Despite his efforts, the gelding then continued to over-race during the middle stages of the event.
