when questioned rider M O Brien stated the mare lost ground between the 500 metres and the 200 metres when STAR OF BETHLEHEM in her opinion over-reached and became unbalanced at that point of the race. She added in the straight the mare was able to respond to her riding and finished the race off fairly. A post race vet examination of STAR OF BETHLEHEM failed to reveal any abnormality. Stewards noted the comments.

Began awkwardly. Jockey J. Hooper reported at scale his mount hung out approaching the 800m turn and was then inclined to lay in for the remainder of the event. He added he recommended to connections to experiment with a tongue control bit at its next race start.

A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer S. Watters was nevertheless advised that a further barrier certificate must be obtained prior to its next race start.
