After being tardy to begin, J. Byrne rode his mount forward and obtained a position on the rail, however approaching the turn near the 900m, the mare overraced badly, resulting in him having to check from heels at the 800m. The horse then continued to overrace for some distance thereafter.

Made contact with DIPPED IN GOLD on jumping. Suffered interference near the 900 metres, Near the 700 metres rolled in and made contact with DIPPED IN GOLD. Rider reported that her mount was inclined to hang in for the majority of the race, and raced wide with cover.

Slow into stride. Shortly after the start had to be checked off the heels of THE BURGLAR which was laying in and away from HIGHWAY QUEEN. When questioned, R. Fradd stated that after being slow into stride and being severely checked, the gelding raced further back than he would have liked, and then approaching the home turn he had to alter course when in restricted room, which forced him to lose some momentum at that point of the race, however the gelding then finished the race off quite well over the concluding stages and in his opinion would be better suited in races longer than that of today
