Bumped by another runner shortly after the start. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, Apprentice R. Ride advised that her instructions were to settle her mount in a midfield position if possible, however after beginning well the gelding commenced to overrace, and after being caught wide approaching the first turn she allowed her mount to stride forward to obtain the lead leaving the 900m.

When asked to comment on the performance, jockey J. Lloyd indicated that the horse travelled well outside the leader throughout the event, however failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure and weakened in the home straight. Trainer P.H. Duncan stated that in light of today’s performance the stable would give consideration to sending the horse for a spell.

Stewards were satisfied that jockey Hellyer had not been in breach of any rules and no action was taken.
