Near the 800m had to be eased away from the heels of STICK WITH ME, which shifted in. A short distance later near the 700m commenced to overrace and then shifted out across the heels of STICK WITH ME and had to be steadied. Held up entering the home straight, and then had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

Bumped app 1200m. When quest re perf. rdr mount began awk, settled midfield & was inclined to overrace in early & middle stages. Rdr added she was unable to improve into event between 600m & 350m when held up on heels. Rdr stated when mount got clear running it responded only fairly to pressure & passing 200m was very reluctant to improve into restricted running. Tnr stated mare would be given another start for stable before its racing future is reassessed. P/R vet exam found no ab's.

Shortly after the start the cap came off the helmet of jockey J. Lloyd. This displaced jockey Lloyd’s goggles and as a result when racing behind other runners leaving the 700m, jockey Lloyd’s vision was impaired due to the kickback. He then attempted to adjust his goggles, which he was unable to do until approaching the 500m, which had an effect on his mount’s position as the filly lost ground during that period.

Stewards advised rdr it should have been apparent mount would not sustain a finishing effort when ridden in the manner it was & he should have eased and taken a sit.

When questioned regarding the horse’s performance and his riding in the home straight, R. Fradd explained that when entering the home straight the gelding was inclined to lay in, which he felt was similar to its last start performance when it bled from one nostril and for this reason he was reluctant to overly pressure his mount over the concluding stages. Stewards advised jockey Fradd that he would be expected to report any matter that may have had an effect on a horse’s performance so as not to leave his riding open to question.
