Naughty Corner Commenced to weaken after passing the 600m and finished at the rear of the field. Rider M. Cahill reported that the gelding, when asked for an effort passing the 600m, failed to respond and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Ultimate Reality Shifted in approaching the 800m despite the efforts of its rider. R. Stewart reported at scale that his mount never travelled well and in his view has come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor respiratory infection. Suilven Trainer questioned re seemingly improved performance - noted gelding first up from 6 month spell during which it had been gelded, which he attributed to the improved performance. Gold Coast 24/01/2018
The Sheepish Lion When given the opportunity to comment on the performance of the gelding which was well supported, Jockey L Rolls stated that after beginning well it got back into a rearward position and when the pace slackened which he felt was detrimental to its chances the gelding was unable to sprint when the pace quickened approaching the 400m. He further added that the horse was first up from a spell today and would benefit from the run and appreciate a step-up in journey and may not have liked the firm surface of today’s event. Patronizing When being restrained passing the 800m to allow another runner to cross his mount, raced ungenerously with its head in the air for some distance. Stewards questioned apprentice jockey B. Thornton regarding his tactics after passing the 900m, which after having had a position on the fence in the lead, resulted in his horse being positioned 3 wide without cover passing the 600m. He indicated to stewards when BEAUDRAGON was improving to the lead he elected to steady and allow that horse to cross and it was his intention to shift out to settle outside that horse if possible, however when he rest Sunshine Coast 27/01/2018

Savwell Following a request from trainer D. Vandyke, this runner was scratched by order of stewards at 12.50 pm after concerns were raised that SAVWELL was in a distressed state in the race day stalls. A veterinary inspection of the gelding found that the horse to be sweating and this in conjunction with the stable’s concerns resulted in the stewards acceding to the request to have the horse scratched. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable. 17 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets 14 cents Sunshine Coast 27/01/2018

Lifesaver Rider questioned re performance - reported gelding travelled reasonably well but did not finish race off as expected. Love Ya Mrs Following the race Jockey S Bogenhuber reported that it was not her intention to obtain the lead but after beginning well she allowed the gelding to stride forward without pressure. Rejuvenate Slow to begin. Jockey J. Morris, rider of MASSIVE ATTACK, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that leaving the 1000m he did direct his mount inwards when not sufficiently clear of SILVER SCREEN, forcing that horse to be taken in on to REJUVENATE, causing REJUVENATE to make contact with the running rail and its rider having to check severely at this stage. Jockey Morris was suspended from riding in races for a period of 12 days, to commence at midnight, 28 January and to expire at midnight, 9 February. Dauphin de France Raced wide without cover. Jockey J. Lloyd was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on his mount. He indicated that despite drawing a wide alley he had been instructed to attempt to obtain a position one off the fence just behind the lead. In attempting to comply with those instructions he rode without committing to a forward or rearward position, and when in a 5-wide position passing the 1200m, pushed forward and raced 3 wide without cover. He advised stewards he had considered restraining to obtain cover at the rear of the field, however was of the view that given the pattern of racing Sunshine Coast 21/01/2018
