Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Jockey J. Lloyd was asked to comment on the performance of the horse. He indicated that his mount was fractious in the barriers and reared up and missed the start and he was obliged therefore to ride the horse further back in the field than he would have liked. He further added he had been following NORMANDY, however shifted to the outside of that horse after passing the 600m and shortly thereafter the horse was under pressure and was very disappointing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

The horse continued to hang out for the remainder of the event, proving difficult to ride, and was eventually eased out of the race near the 400m. Trainer B. Ahrens was advised that the horse would be required to perform satisfactorily in an official trial before being permitted to race again.

Jockey D. Browne reported that after travelling well throughout the event, the horse blundered near the 450m and was immediately under pressure and weakened in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Stewards questioned trainer L. White who was of the view that the poor performance could be attributed to the rain-affected track. Miss White was advised that stewards would follow up with her in the coming days as to the horse’s recovery.

Mr Andrew advised that at its previous start the horse drew a wide gate and was trapped off the track on that occasion.
