A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be short-striding in the off foreleg. Trainer T. Gollan was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Stewards intend to follow up with Mr Gollan in ensuing days regarding the horse’s post-race recovery.

English stated that she was instructed to lead on the gelding at all costs, as she had done at its previous start at Doomben, as it was the opinion of the stable that the gelding does not appreciate racing behind horses. She added that approaching the 800m, when Ms Harrison on LET’S PARTY MARTY was reluctant to move to the fence, she then realised that if she raced outside LET’S PARTY MARTY, she would be forced to race in a three wide position. Trainer P. Duff confirmed the instructions.

When quest re perf. app stated mount est lead easily & in middle stages she allowed it to travel comfortably, on the bridle. App stated mount failed to let down in heavy track conditions in straight & weakened to line. Tnr stated mare worked well leading into event & he was very confident. Tnr added it did not appear mare handled heavy track & it may have reached the end of its prep. Tnr advised he would freshen before reassessing immediate racing future. P/R vet exam found poor recovery rate.

Allen reported to stewards that approaching the 400m, as he felt that there may have been something amiss with the mare, he elected to stop pressuring his mount at that stage. He added, though, once he had entered the home straight the mare commenced to improve and therefore he continued to ride for the remainder of the event.
