Stewards inquired with M Rodd, rider of BRAZEN BRECCIA, as to whether an opportunity existed at a point near the 1000 metres, when challenged for the lead by VOIGHT, to restrain his mount to obtain cover. He stated at that point of the race his mount was travelling comfortably and as it is a big horse that wears a tongue tie he was concerned BRAZEN BRECCIA may not continue to travel if overly restrained. M Rodd further stated he did not wish to be caught behind VOIGHT which, in his opinion, was not a strong chance in the race adding that the tempo at that stage of the race was not significant.

Rider reported that near the 1000m, when the tempo of the race slackened, his mount commenced to race keenly and when another runner hung out, the gelding was carried out across heels, resulting in him having to check and shift wider to avoid heels. He added that the gelding then continued to race keenly for some distance thereafter.
