Bayliss reported that after being caught wide for the majority of the event the gelding had quite a hard run and after receiving some interference approaching the home turn and in the home straight, commenced to weaken approaching the 200m. He added that as his mount had come to the end of its run he desisted from pressuring it over the final stages of the event. Vetted, no abnormalities.

Stewards inquired into this incident and Apprentice B Nothdurft was subsequently found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR 131 (a), in that after passing the 300m, when riding JERRY ZANDA along, directed that gelding out to obtain clear running and in doing so tightened the running of THORBEN causing the rider of that horse to restrain his mount and lose ground. Apprentice Nothdurft’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days to commence midnight 5 June and to conclude 15 June
