Stewards questioned apprentice J. Brand in respect of her riding from the 600m. Of concern to stewards was her lack of vigour from that point of the race. Apprentice Brand reported that her mount had not travelled strongly throughout the event and, in her opinion, did not appreciate the firm track conditions despite her efforts to improve from the 600m. After having had the opportunity to review the footage of the race with stewards, apprentice Brand agreed that she had erred in not placing the horse under greater pressure than she did from the 600m. When questioned in relation to the performance L Henry explained that her mount did not respond to her vigour at any stage of the race and was reluctant to race. She attributed this to the application of ear muffs. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. Trainer Mr. S Gleeson said that the preparation would be continued, however ear muffs would be removed from the mare’s racing gear.
