Bumped heavily at the start. On return to the enclosure the gelding was found to have blood present in one nostril. A subsequent review of the start revealed the inside barrier gate to have bounced back striking the gelding on the nose. On veterinary inspection a small laceration was found on the inside of the gelding's nose. |

Stewards questioned Jockey regarding his riding in the straight. He said that his mount was inclined to lay out throughout the event and proved difficult to ride. Stewards advised Jockey that in their opinion he had erred in not attempting to pull the whip through to his left hand in an effort to encourage the mare to race truly. Jockey was also reprimanded for raising his whip above shoulder height.

Stewards considered an application by jockey that his mount had been denied a fair start. On the evidence it was established that the gelding had been fractious prior to the start and got its head down in the barriers. As the start was effected a
barrier attendant had hold of the gelding's head and jockey was unbalanced and had hold of the barrier petition with his right hand. The gelding subsequently was unable to jump with the field. Acting under the provisions of AR 134A Stewards declared the gelding a non-runner. |
