Rider advised that after starting from an outside barrier he elected to ease back to avoid being caught wide in the early stages, however the gelding had never travelled comfortably at any stage, and may have resented the kickback, despite making up some ground over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no abnormalities.
