When questioned rider stated that he was instructed to be positive if possible in the early stages and take up a position just off the pace. He further stated that he did not elect to position behind other runners to obtain cover because the gelding typically resents kickback. Trainer confirmed the instructions and further advised that he had expected a forward showing after good recent performances but was at a loss to explain the gelding’s disappointing performance over the concluding stages. Trainer advised that the stable did support the gelding in todays’ event.

When questioned on the performance and tactics adopted, rider stated that she had intended to be positive in the early stages from her wide draw and take up a position near the leaders however was unable to do so which resulted in the gelding being caught in a very wide position without cover for the majority of the race. Trainer advised that he had not given any specific instructions but did advise that the gelding was caught in similar circumstances at its previous start and was a difficult horse to restrain with a tendency to over-race.
