Johnston-Bell indicated that from the wide alley he was obliged to position the horse further back in the field than he would have liked, He added that the horse would appreciate a step up in distance where it could obtain a position closer to the lead. He felt the horse was able to improve into the race rounding the home turn and was doing its best work over the concluding stages. |

Inq re tactics, in particular why he rode forward when the horse has not been ridden in a forward position in its recent starts, and also remaining away from the fence where it appeared he had opportunity to cross to the fence after passing the 850m. Rider said he thought the track closest to the fence was more rain-affected so he wanted to race away from the fence and shift wider entering the home straight. He said the tactics today were the same instructions given at the last three starts, but after not beginning well was positioned further back in the field. Stewards noted the explanation. |
