The start was delayed initially when the horse became fractious behind the barriers. Following a veterinary examination it was passed fit to start. A post race veterinary examination revealed contusions to the off foreleg and also to have a laceration to the near-side foreleg. Trainer M. Nolan will be advised that a veterinary certificate must be provided prior to its next race start.

Hung out from the 800m until straightening. Jockey B. Stewart explained that when crossed by ROCK GARDEN his horse overraced badly when inclined to hang out, and then from the 800m continued to shift out away from SNOW DRIFTER. He added he would recommend to connections that blinkers be applied to the horse at its next start.
