Had to be steadied near the 1200m, losing ground. Stewards inquired into the incident, evidence was taken from the riders in the vicinity and it was established that HOL’S SPRINGSTEEN shifted in and away from GOOD CATCH, which shifted in slightly away from MALCRIADO, which was racing in a 4 wide position at that stage. As stewards were not satisfied that the incident was a result of carelessness by any one of the riders, no action was taken.

Slow to begin. Questioner re performance App stated that able to ride gelding as instructed in the early stages in a rearward position. Leaving the 1000m he allowed his mount to improve to obtain a position outside WALK TO THE BAR however, passing the 800m was taken to a 3 wide position by that runner. Given the slow tempo he elected to allow MOONLIGHT DANCER to improve into race but was continually taken wider on the track as WALK TO THE BAR continued to improve on his inside. As a consequence was obliged to race very wide rounding home turn which had detrimental effect on the performance.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance Jockey R Plumb was at a loss to explain the performance and could only add that the gelding travelled well until placed under pressure entering the home straight and failed to respond. As a result near the 200m he elected to ease the gelding over the final stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. A swab sample was taken.

When asked to comment on the performance, jockey J. Lloyd stated that he had been instructed to ride the horse on speed, however his mount began awkwardly and this positioned him towards the back of the field. He indicated CHIC SALE did not travel comfortably and when VIDARR shifted out near the 600m his mount commenced to lay out away from the horse and continued to do so for the remainder of the event. He added that he had recommended to connections to start the horse over more ground where it may be able to obtain a forward position more easily.
