Overraced when the pace was only steady in the early stages. Forced wider near the 850m and raced 3 wide without cover from that point. Stewards spoke with trainer in regarding the horse’s performance. He indicated that when the horse overraced in the early stages he would have preferred jockey Fradd to allow the horse to stride forward to the lead as the horse has raced successfully when being permitted to lead when racing in New Zealand. He believed that being forced

Apprentice C. Bayliss could offer no tangible explanation for the horse’s disappointing performance. Trainer G. Taylor stated that in his opinion the horse had to work hard to go forward and lead and raced keenly when able to do so. He advised that at this stage he might continue with the horse’s preparation however, he would notify stewards otherwise. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

continued to be buffeted by that runner until passing the 400m. Stable representative M. Sharp and jockey R. Stewart were questioned regarding the tactics adopted. Miss Sharp indicated it had been the intention to ride the horse positively out of the barriers at the horse’s only previous start,howeverit had been slow to begin and was therefore ridden at the tail of the field. She indicated again the intention was to be positive out of the barriers however did not expect the horse would begin as well as it did today and was therefore further
