He added that the gelding was subsequently found to have been suffering from a virus and as such was treated and freshened up. He further stated that BALIUS appreciated rain-affected tracks and he believed these factors may have contributed to today’s improved performance.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.
