Balius When questioned regarding the horse’s seemingly improved performance, trainer B. Witt stated that he had expected the gelding to perform well at its last start, however it had disappointed. He added that the gelding was subsequently found to have been suffering from a virus and as such was treated and freshened up. He further stated that BALIUS appreciated rain-affected tracks and he believed these factors may have contributed to today’s improved performance. Doomben 08/09/2018

Flame of Liberty Rider reported that shortly after the start his mount felt uncomfortable in its action and for this reason he elected not to pressure the gelding for the remainder of the event and was eventually eased out of the race in the home straight. Vetted post race revealed no significant findings. Official barrier trial required. Passed D'ben Official trial 18/9/18. Ipswich 14/09/2018
Rogue Drummer Began awkwardly and was then tightened for room and lost ground. Ipswich 29/08/2018
Bel's Banner Slow to begin. Hung out rounding the home turn and continued to lay out for the majority of the home straight. Ipswich 14/09/2018
Gem of the Lochs Jockey T. Harrison reported to stewards it had been her intention to ride her mount in a forward position, however the horse failed to muster sufficient early speed to cross runners to her inside and was obliged to settle in the second half of the field. Sunshine Coast 09/09/2018
Lady Clare Obliged to race in restricted room near the 700m and again inconvenienced by another runner approaching the 400m and forced wider on the track. Apprentice J. Murphy was asked to comment on the horse’s performance. He indicated that after travelling favourably in the early and middle stages the horse suffered interference on the home turn and failed to respond to his riding thereafter. Phoenix Shadow Slow to begin. Commenced to overrace near the 900m and had to be checked off heels, shifted out and hampered another runner, then continued to overrace for some distance after leaving the 900m. All Shiraz Slow into stride. Hung in under pressure in the home straight. R. Williams reported that after obtaining a position to the inside of WEARETENFORTYEIGHT near the 900m, the filly commenced to race ungenerously for a considerable distance.
