N. Day reported that at no stage of the race did the horse travel comfortably. He noted that the horse’s form is on more rain-affected surfaces than that of today. Trainer A. Williamson indicated that he would report back anything that may come to light in coming days and that the horse would have a further jump-out or official trial prior to racing again. Subsequently trainer reported that the horse had suffered muscle injuries in both the off shoulder and off rump, which in his opinion would explain the poor performance.. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

Stewards inquired into this incident and found that DON’T DOUBT LARA shifted out under pressure and NIATROSS, which had a tendency to lay in under pressure from the 400m, had also shifted in. After considering the evidence, stewards advised both jockeys R. Goltz, rider of NIATROSS, and R. Wiggins, rider of DON’T DOUBT LARA, to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
