Raced three wide without cover throughout. When asked to comment on the performance rider S Cormack stated that he was unable to find a position with cover and that after traveling past the 900m was obliged to race in a three wide position. He added that when the pace quickened passing the 500m the gelding failed to improve when asked, however over the concluding stages finished the race off well. He further added that CHAPELCO has raced flat previously when second up from a spell and in his opinion may appreciate racing on a bigger track than that of today’s event.

Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on performance which was below market expectations Rider T Harrison stated that prior to the event her pre-race plan was to lead if the horse began well. However, after beginning awkwardly she elected to take a position settling behind the leaders. She added that when rounding the home turn she placed the gelding under pressure it did not quicken and that she was reluctant to ride aggressively in the early stages as she had ridden the mare aggressively in its most recent start and felt that it had a detrimental affect on the horses finishing efforts. Trainer K Fogden was advised that she must provide a Veterinary certificate for the gelding, inclusive of the results of an endoscopic examination prior to racing. Trainer K Fogden advised that on return to stables the gelding was scoped revealing it had grade 3 mucus in its airways and was subsequently treated accordingly.
